Video of a Tibetan Fox stealing prey from a Brown Bear
This is some edited footage from the BBC’s fabulous Natural World series, featuring a Tibetan Fox and a Brown Bear hunting Pikas in the Tibetan Himalayas. As David Attenborough mentions in the film, the Tibetan Fox is an amazing-looking fox with it’s chiseled jaw and semi-smile.
One of the many fascinating things about this clip is, although this fox is thousands of miles away from the UK, it still displays some classic behavioural traits that we see everyday among the urban foxes in our back gardens. The fox shows its ability to survive in what we would consider a hostile environment, and shows its opportunistic side by letting the bear do all the hard work before sneaking in to capture the pika.
This Tibetan fox also exhibits the practise of burying half-eaten prey to come back to at a later date, which is exactly what UK foxes do in our gardens, much to the annoyance of many proud gardeners.
A superb piece of footage that really shows just how similar the behaviour of a Tibetan Fox high up in the Himalayas is to the Red Foxes we find in our urban areas across the UK.
