Mouse Deterrent

After installing a 9 Volt battery, the unit lets out a burst of ultrasonic noise every 8 seconds.

The frequency of the noise (40kHz) is too high for humans to hear but creates a very uncomfortable environment for mice and they will stay away from the area in order to avoid hearing the noise.

The Ultrasonic Mouse Deterrent is a humane way of dealing with your mouse infestation and doesn't involve inhumane alternatives like poisons or traps.

An additional benefit is that you don't have any dead bodies to dispose of.

The Ultrasonic Mouse Deterrent protects an unobstructed area of up to 92 square metres (1000sq ft).

Ultrasonic pulses do not penetrate walls, ceilings or floors very effectively, so if there's more than one room that needs protecting, it's better to have separate mouse deterrents in each.

Twist the unit anti-clockwise to open it up and install a good quality 9 Volt alkaline battery, like Duracell. We don't recommend using rechargeable batteries.

You can tell the unit is on because the little red light on the front will flash every 6 - 8 seconds.

Place the unit vertically in the room/area that has the mouse infestation and leave. Avoid installing flat or horizontally so that the noise is more targeted and effective.

Where possible, install the unit down at 'mouse level', i.e. as close to the surface that the mouse runs along as possible.

There is a keyhole slot on the back of the unit to allow you to wall-mount it with a screw. If you know where the mouse gets in then you can install the unit near that spot.

A 9 Volt Duracell battery should last around 6 months. You will know the battery needs replacing when the red light stops flashing.

This depends on how bad the mouse infestation is but in most cases you should see the effect within 2 weeks.

In more serious cases, you should allow 4 - 6 weeks for the unit to positively take effect.

Once you've installed the Mouse Deterrent, just leave it and don't be tempted to keep moving it around. In order to work, the mice need to hear the noise consistently, which will happen if it's left in one place.

No, the unit is not waterproof so it should be used indoors where it can stay dry.

However, 'indoors' should not only be taken to mean in the house. The deterrent is also suitable for garages, sheds, outhouses, barns etc...

As long as the environment is dry, the Mouse Deterrent can be used there.

We do not make the claim that this absolutely deters rats, as we have not done sufficient testing to confidently state it.

However, we do have anecdotal evidence from some customers that the Ultrasonic Mouse Deterrent has had a positive impact on their rat problems.

We recommend that you install your Ultrasonic Mouse Deterrent vertically in order to be most effective.

A mouse running along the floor, shelf or work surface is very low to the ground. So, by installing the Mouse Deterrent vertically, the noise will be projected directly at the level of the mouse, forcing it to hear the full force of the ultrasonic waves.

Alternatively, laying the unit flat (horizontally) would mean the sound waves are being projected up into the air, not specifically targeted at the mouse. This positioning will be far less likely to give you the desired results.

So, for maximum effectiveness, set up the unit vertically.
