Get Off Fox Repellent Spray
A very popular and low budget fox deterrent is Get Off Fox Repellent Spray, manufactured under the ‘Vapet’ range by Spotless Punch Ltd.
Don’t let the fact that it is officially labelled as being for ‘cats and dogs’ put you off purchasing as this product can deal with foxes too.
Get Off Spray comes in a 500ml container with a hand grip and spray nozzle, much like a bottle of window cleaner or anti-bacterial surface spray.
If you have a problem with foxes fouling or digging up your garden, then this can be a very effective repellent, particularly if you have a small garden or problem area.
How do i use Get Off Fox Repellent Spray?
One of the reasons this deterrent is so popular is because it’s so easy to use. Simply snap off the plastic seal on the nozzle and it’s ready to be sprayed.
For best results, make sure any fox poo has been removed from your garden or other area you are about to spray.
Foxes use excrement as a way of marking their territory, so you need to make sure all trace of it is gone before you spray.
You may have found in the past that just removing fox poo without putting down repellent only results in the fox replacing it the next night!
Once the fox faeces has been completely removed, spray the Get Off fox repellent 2 or 3 times on the previously fouled area.
If this application doesn’t work first time, you may need to repeat the application every 12 hours for several days before it takes effect.
Get Off can handle some light showers, however you will need to reapply after heavy rainfall for maximum effectiveness.
The fox (and any other animals) will soon learn that the areas it has fouled in previously are now no longer desirable. Also, ensure to repeat application after heavy rainfall.
How does Get Off Fox Repellent Spray work?
The main ingredient in Get Off Spray that works to repel foxes is Methyl Nonyl Ketone. MNK is a liquid that occurs naturally in ginger and bananas, but when extracted it gives off a very strong odour meaning it has been used in many insect and animal repellents.
It works in a similar way to citronella and confuses the sense of smell of the fox. Foxes place great importance on their sense of smell to detect danger and the spray makes them keep away rather than stray into a territory they cannot properly assess with their nose.
Is Get Off Fox Repellent Spray safe to use?
Under the Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986, all animal repellents sold in the UK must adhere to its guidelines and Get Off Spray is manufactured and sold to comply with these standards, having been approved for use by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).
The usual common sense precautions still apply however, such as keeping out of reach of children, avoiding contact with eyes and washing hands after use.
Get Off Repellent Spray is not harmful to pets and can keep for up to 5 years, so it can be kept for a fairly considerable amount of time if you do find you need to use it again.
Get Off is very useful and effective if you have a small garden, but for larger gardens you may be better off getting Scoot Fox Repellent or the FoxWatch Fox Deterrent.
