David Tennant – ‘I wee in my garden to deter foxes.’
A funny little interview I found with David Tennant which shows that even ex-intergalactic timelords have problems with urban foxes coming into their garden. You can listen to the interview below.
Further down this page, you’ll find some alternative fox deterrent suggestions that you might find more suitable for use in your garden!
David Tennant interview on Absolute Radio
So, by the sounds of things, actor David Tennant is plagued by foxes in the area of London where he lives and decided to urinate in his garden to deter them.
According to the London Wildlife Trust, there are approximately 18 foxes per square kilometre in London, so it’s no surprise that so many people encounter them on a regular basis, including one of the UK’s most popular actors.
Is it effective?
You can read more detail about this in our article Is Human Urine An Effective Fox Repellent?
However, as David Tennant explains in the interview, this method does have its drawbacks. Relieving yourself in the garden on a daily basis is not so nice if the weather is terrible outside
Plus, there is only so much bodily fluid a human can provide, which could make things difficult if you have anything other than a small garden!
Foxes need a consistent deterrent so that they learn to associate your garden with something negative. This will teach them to reduce their visits accordingly.
Use dedicated fox deterrents
You’re better off using a product specifically designed for deterring foxes, rather than weeing in your garden, whenever you remember to do it. If you live in a heavily-populated area, then foxes are going to be used to the smell of humans, so you’re likely wasting your time anyway.
Using a good quality ultrasonic device will automate the deterrent process and will emit irritating high-pitched noises each time the fox crosses into the detection zone, without you needing to do anything.
Add in an effective scented deterrent like Scoot Fox Repellent, and you’ll trick the fox into thinking another fox is trying to take over the area – far more effective than human urine.
Use the two products in conjunction with one another and you’ll be targeting two senses (hearing and smell) at the same time, without needing to risk embarrassing yourself in front of your neighbours!
